A Second Life for Scrap Cheese
Cheese is a very expensive, resource intensive, product to make. The most common use of cheese scraps was going to local animal diets and minks, an industry where there is little value. We wanted to find a new market for the by-product and maximize its economic and environmental value.
Our company developed a proprietary process that takes a broad variety of cheese sources, develops flavor and creates a palatant for pet food applications that meets all quality and regulatory standards for FSMA and customers. We also developed a process that takes advantage of the nutrients in the cheese for use in young calf diets.
We took the unique characteristics for the cheese, found the highest value markets and commercialized the sales of this product in a way that max revenues and directs the product to stable, high-end markets.
